A view from the castle. |
This morning we went to Assisi. We rode in our taxi with the same driver who is named Leonardo. We had him as a taxi driver on the first day in Todi.
Anyway, we got to the train station and waited in the COLD wind until our train arrived. We got to see the beautiful landscape while we were sitting and knitting.
We arrived and went to a castle that had many stairs and passages. Also, there was the best view of the city, but it was so windy that you could feel the wind push you and almost make you fall over.
We also went into some of the churches, but unfortunately we couldn’t take pictures inside.
We went to a bakery for snack and it didn’t even open until about twenty minutes after te time it was supposed to. An older woman was there waiting there with us looking at her watch every minute. Finally, a man came in and sold the sweets to us.
Although, there is not much I can explain, other than that we had a good time, I have many pictures for you.
Love,
Ashley

Back already and yet it looks like you had a full day walking and climbing. Todi's steps must have prepared you for Assisi. I appears that the town like your's is on top of a hill - a fortress perhaps, although we think of churches and St Francis more often.
ReplyDeleteI was cleaning out the back bird bath today. I uncovered a handful of earwigs and couldn't help but think about Eleanor.
Granddad
I think you sent the cold and wind straight to us in Delft! And I didn't have any knitting to help keep me warm!
ReplyDeleteTomorrow is Ada's big 80th birthday party - they send lots of love.
We went to a museum where the special exhibit was animal sculptures - makes me wonder - were there any animal statues in Assisi?
Lots of love
Vovo
Funnily enough, we didn't see any statues of animals other than those with St. Francis in the windows of tourist shops. Oh- there was also a fountain with gargoyles, etc.
ReplyDeleteThe unimpeded climbing sounds like what we did in Wales a few years ago. The fortresses were open to anyone and there were hardly any barricades. We climbed into tiny corners and slithered down narrow staircases, without hand railings or guard bars. Very cool, but not what you'd find in the States! Walking along the ancient walls was fun too!
