A lazy Sunday...

Eleanor and I sang in the choir at Mass today, and met a 9-year-old girl who lives...across the street from us!  And she has a dog!  And she's learning English!  So we're going to get together with her and the family a bit, I think.  The little girl is really sweet, as are her parents.  Her mother also sings in the choir, and the girl passes the basket during the offertory.

We've also met the choir director (he wasn't there last week), and he was really welcoming, too.  It was very nice to feel part of the group!  They have a pamphlet each week that has EVERYTHING in the rite -- word for word, including readings, etc., which makes it so much easier to follow along.

Then we went home and did our weekly pickle rinse on the house, cleaned a bit.  It's amazing how little time it takes to keep a small house clean.  Wow.  30 minutes and you're done.

Then we watched not a b-class, but a c-class movie for kids.  It was the lamest thing I've ever seen.  I can't imagine anyone making it to begin with -- but then to go through the trouble of dubbing it?  The kids were cracking up at how ridiculous it was.  I'm working on a sweater for Jeremy, so I sat and read my Nook while the kids guffawed.

Eleanor made dinner -- a learning experience for us on gnocchi.  Unfortunately, the potatoes were less cooked than they needed to be, so they were rather imperfect.  However, they were still pretty yummy with pancetta and parmigiano.  And she made some seriously yummy lemon granita for dessert, so there were no complaints from anyone.

Love,

Alexandra

  1. Bring on the lemon granite! It's a good thing you all do thousands of steps a day or everyone would be rolling off the plane. Who's coming to cook at my house when you get home?

  2. I meant granita! This iPad corrects stuff and it's hard to catch sometimes!

  3. A balmy summer morning here. We enjoyed coffee on the patio in our short sleeves. Overhead, hundreds of geese were announcing their migration north. The local birds are noisily tackling each other at the feeder.

Are you seeing the flocks of storks moving through yet? I bet they make a racket. Then again with so many new things to see who notices the birds.

    Have a great week.

  4. We had the opposite experience Saturday - googled English Mass in The Hague, found a 5.30 not in walking distance but decided it would be worth driving so that we would be able to understand the readings. Unfortunately the site was not updated, so we had it all in Dutch and some Latin. Oh well...
Rain here today in Dorset, but we are happy to be not doing much other than baby worship, and Paula and I have been ipadding - great fun! Paula is thrilled that her boys don't like licorice! Daisy hasnt decided yet whether she likes it or not.
Keep us posted on the cooking - hope you will prepare some of the yummy food for us!
