La Scuola di Cioccolato

Yesterday we had the opportunity to attend a chocolate making class at the Perugina factory in Perugia.  The kids tempered chocolate, molded it, and then decorated their own Easter eggs!  Here are some pictures from the class:
There were only 14 people in the class

Each spot had a little smoothtop stove with melted chocolate ready for us

Getting started with decorating a little chocolate placard

James working hard

I forgot to mention it!  We were being filmed for TV!

Putting white chocolate in the mold

The mess begins!  Tempering the chocolate.

Our teacher.  He wore this cute hat the whole time!

Unmolding the chocolate shells

Ashley's shell -- unmolded.

Eleanor feeling a little unsure as to unmolding her base.

The decorating begins!

Ashley's hearts & flowers

Eleanor applying the finishing touches

Jeremy asked for more white chocolate.  The chef thought he just liked it (rather than wanting to use it for enhancement), so he gave J these pieces to use as a roof on his egg!

And now let's see if we can keep  them until Easter morning!

After the class, I wanted to go to the factory store, but it was closed.  Define "closed."  More like "Lights are on, but no one's home."  The lights were on, all the merchandise was there, but not a soul was in sight.  And I'd been told that it was closed.  So here comes the Italian part:  I picked out the items that I wanted, and I left a note with the money I owed.  I'm starting to catch on to this system!

Love,

Alexandra

  1. How absolutely marvelous!!! How did you manage to find out about the school, and then get 5 places out of only 14? Good job! It doesn't look as though there are any other young people in the class. If there is the tiniest crumb of white chocolate left after Easter I would love a taste...
Hope you are enjoying Grandma and Granddad's visit.
    Much love

  2. When you make my yummy mascarpone cake, can you make us chocolate eggs too? Yummy! And beautiful too. Mikey came for dinner last night and then had to go grocery shopping. It sounds like a lot more fun to grocery shop in Todi than at the Kroger....but at least we know that the Kroger will be open when the sign says it will be!
