Yesterday, we went down the cello maker's street in the hope of seeing him at work. And we struck gold! He was there and took a long time to talk to us. The front of the violin is made of fir (always 2 pieces) and the sides and back are made of (yikes! I don't remember). He planes everything by hand, forms it, and so on. The wood for the neck alone costs 400 euros.
As he was talking, he casually thrust a violin into my hands for a look. Then he offered to let Jeremy play the cello. Do you think there was the slightest chance that he would say no?

Yes, this is a 6000 euro cello that he's casually handing to Jeremy |

Isn't she a cutie? |

One of Raphael's angels, I think. |
Then his 5-year-old granddaughter, Sara, sidled into the shop. She's shy and completely adorable. So altogether, we had a wonderful time.
