Field Hockey is Not for Wimps!

Ada (foreground) and her son Nils behind
We had the chance to see Nina play field hockey this afternoon, and it was my first time seeing the sport in action.  Of course, we didn't understand it all, but I found it very different from what I'd expected.  The biggest difference was the stick and the swing.  It's like an upside-down candy cane and the swing is more like a hammer throw (circular in the plane of the ground) than a golf swing (circular in the plane perpendicular to the ground).  The game is frighteningly fast for those of us who don't have quick reflexes.  And now we'll be off to dinner!

You should see the sticks fly!
